Our recent travels have got us thinking.  Although we where inspired by the myriad of street people in our hometown, the bounty of bum goodness is shared in cities large and small across the globe. Many visitors to the website have sent us pictures, shared stories, and even a few bought t-shirts emblazoned with our mascot: The Boxman. We really appreciate those people. If this collection of digital mess is the online home for the homeless, then where is the home for the homeless?  What town, city, state or downtown district has the best collection of street people?  We are not talking just straight up homeless but the full spectrum of street people – the scammers, cajolers, truly lost, and those that have just given up on life.  Does one town outshine another?

We have covered how in Europe homeless people took over an abandoned building and turned it into a home, in Czechoslovakia they have a floating barge that houses the homeless as they try and get these people into social programs and off the street, most recently we visited Boston observing that the aroma coming off the bums in that town is as fragrant as a crock of baked beans.  So where is the “Home for the Homeless 2007”? There is nothing up for grabs other than the title – that and us taunting the winning city officials, media and Chamber of Commerce with letters and handmade awards that we plan on creating out of an old trophy that one of the street people gave to us for a little bit of scratch. So which city do you think should win?  Send us your thoughts and comments either by email or just post a comment at the bottom of this section.  As most contests have rules here are the rules for “Home of the Homeless 2007”:

·         Location should have a diversity of street people, those that are scammers, beggars, and ones that are just lost people.

·         You can vote for as many locations as you want.

·         Please provide a comment as to why you recommend the location

·         This is not a vote; the location with the most submissions does not win.

It is a more of a tour guide making a recommendation of where to go to view the best in bumdom.

·         Our panel of experts namely douchey & assclown, will pick the winning location.

·         We will accept bribes to have your location named as “Home for the Homeless 2007”

Send us your thoughts now because god knows when we will pick a winner.

I know from one homeless person I worked with...irony I know..but he had come from texas-he said seattle is known all over the coutnry for being full of softies that give free meals and handouts.

So-is that what we would like to be known for? I think not...not in my opinion...

I believe this is one area for which I can recommend outsourcing as a solution.

It is hugely expensive to build and maintain facilities in our cities.
These facilities can be built for pennies on the dollar in places like Mexico. The savings more than justifies the cost of transporting the homeless either offshore or across the border.

We should outsource homelessness right away.

I love to wait until Christmas time and go downtown where all of the homeless are congregating and pass out gifts. I found last year that they were really appreciative of Home Depot gift cards. I also try to make it a point to throw my doggie bags at them after I eat at a nice restaurant that they couldn't afford even if they conquered their mental illnesses and became gainfully employed. appreciated.

How about San Francisco. I never even visited it, so I can only guess how bad its homeless problem is. But several people who either live there or visited it said they never seen so many homeless people in their lives.

Richmond, VA. If you haven't already seen it. Check out Bum Rock on you tube. It was shot in Richmond. I've walked down the street and had a bum with a trash bag bend over and yell at me asking "Hey do any of you guys know where I can take a shit!?" The local college even pays all the bums to stay in a hotel so that the incoming freshman orientation people don't have to see them all. Peace.
